Yes, the movie finally released amidst all hype and hoopla. It's not been delayed as such but the fact that the movie has been in making since such a long time, almost gave the feel that it's taking forever. And the reasons for such a hype – a) First Indian film to have such high level of SFX; b) Harman Baweja, who is being touted as the next 'Hrithik Roshan'!

Let's come straight to the point. a) Yes the movie definitely is a landmark in terms of special effects. b) It is absolutely unfair to carry on with any further comparisons. Let's start looking at Harman as an individual and not as a clone or a cheaper version. And Harman would do good to understand the same too.

Coming back to the film, Love Story 2050 does not have the greatest of stories if you pull out the time machine. And what it does is not told in the best possible way. The basic story of this film revolves around Karan Malhotra (Harman Baweja) and Sanaa (Priyanka Chopra). Karan is a rich brat who loves extreme sports and Sanaa is this simple girl-next-door. They meet at a sports event and sunshine sparkles. Sunshine, the name Karan keeps addressing Sanaa by after their meet.

All things go fine till thunder strikes and Sanaa leaves Karan for the unknown lands. A depressed Karan sees a spark of hope when his Uncle Ya (Boman Irani, yes, that's his name) says his time machine is finally working. And they leave for the year 2050 where Karan believes he would find his Sanaa as she wanted to go there too. There starts the adventure of a life time. But by then the film's crossed its half time.

Back to the future, Karan finds Sanna in the form of Zeisha who is the world's best known pop star. She is a craze and Karan has to make his way up to woo her all over again.

And then of course there is some thrill added to this story as there is one Dr Hoshi who wants the time machine and for that he is willing to kill anyone. Finally, Karan, Uncle Ya and Sanaa's two young siblings are in the race against time apart from Dr Hoshi.

The problem with Love Story 2050 is that right from the first shot it seems to be an advertisement for Harman Baweja. Harry Baweja makes a movie which shows everything that his son has to offer – acting, dance, stunts. Very similar to what Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai did for Hrithik Roshan. It would have been better if they had tried sticking to making it a regular film rather than showing off Harman. For example, what's the use showing that he can jump from building to building? Or skating and rolling for that matter just to catch a bus when he can sensibly take a cab?

The first half of the film is funny and sunny and no sign of the science fiction that people might expect to see. And it's long too. But looking at it from another point of view does serve it as a platform where second half is built. The film post interval picks up pretty well and there is a lot of thrill, enough to make you wish to be in the future yourself. There are flying cars, robots, cool shopping malls and all things fancy. The climax leaves you pretty happy. And that's exactly what works for the movie. The dialogues are good too. High and lavishly used SFX is definitely the trump card of Love Story 2050. Cinematography catches our attention and the editing matches the rest of the technical aspects of the film.

Performance-wise, the movie does not have as much to offer to Priyanka but she does well. Harman is the man and he does not let you down, especially considering he is a newcomer. But he needs to work on his dialogues. Funny-man Boman Irani is wonderful. And yes the robots – Boo and QT are cuttie-pies.
Overall, however, the film turns out to be just above average. For one, it's too long and secondly, is unable to hold your attention throughout. Though it tries to bring in all the elements of a commercial pot-boiler, it turns out that the pot was not well heated! There is one line that Harman's character keeps on saying all the time – I don't need luck, I have love. Our take would be – buddy you need some luck this time.

PS: We are willing to forget everything. But then cleaning up the Mumbai shores and turning the grey sea water into cool blue is something we can't get off our minds. Mind blowing!
